Monday lessons:

We started off the term by discussing what multimedia was and how it could be incorporated into 'Antigone'.

...................................................................................................................................................................

Today we discussed different typed of multimedia that we could use in our performances and also looked for a spot that would be good for our scene to take place in. The place my group found was brilliant if a projector was going to be the main point of focus however the area in which it was in was cramped and would not suite an audience above the number of 10 so wouldn't be ideal. My mind went crazy and thought of all the different and amazing things that I could use for my future performance. One of my ideas was doing our scene outside on the playground are and having a giant or many projectors project one huge image onto the front wall of the school. It was look fantastic and possibly make a real statement, however then a more realistic mind set set in, which was less fun but actually considered the weather, cost and time (I didn't have my phone on the day so was unable to take pictures).

After break, when we all got back, we watched three videos and made noted on them. Here are my notes:

..........................................................................................................

Today we explored how using our phones in a chorus could help us to modernize a piece. Each group was given the same text from a chorus section in the play, but was asked to use their phones in a creative and unique way, which would enable the end product to be interesting. This task helped us to explore the techniques that could be used and give us inspiration for our final piece (such as making the phone light flash on and off or getting illustrations up on a phone).

My favourite group that I think used their phones most efficiently, was Benji's group. I really liked this group because they didn't use the flashlight on their phones (like most people) but instead used sound. The sound that they used was that of a phone notification, The whole scene consisted of of text messages being sent from one character to another (the messenger would always read out what they were typing). I thought that the piece was amazing and it would be great if we could include this in our final piece.

My group on the other hand used torchlight to start off the performance, the sound of guns somewhere in the middle to accommodate the text and an 'Argos' logo (that was on a mobile phone and held to ones chest) to modernize the piece as a reference to the 'House of Argos'.  Our piece was fairly smooth however if we were given more time, I think the piece could have really benefited. Next time to improve I would like to input more into the group and not hold back my ideas so much. I think the reason I did this was because we were with the other class for the second time and I was slightly nervous to put forward my ideas. I really need to get over the shy stage when it comes to theatre as in reality there is no time for shyness, just professionalism.

...................................................................................................................................................................

In today's lesson we explored what live feed, being that live broadcast is fed through to you (/the audience) via a something. We looked at different angles in which a camera could be held or place in order to create a certain affect. I personally do not like the idea of live feed however I do find it interesting to play around with.
We also looked at garage band and I downloaded the app on my phone. We thought about how we could incorporate a tune of our own using different types of instruments. For instance the music created could be used as background music to create tension or to symbolize emotion. After school on the train I was fiddling around with the app and seeing what I could come up with, I really enjoyed the idea of this and hope to use it in my piece.

...................................................................................................................................................................

We found out where abouts our scene would take place ad were able to get a feel of our surroundings as well as get our own tour of where the promenade would take place. The idea of having a promenade performance brings on the ideology of having the perfomance be free flowing and smooth, it also keeps the audience in suspense as they don't know what they're doing next or are going to see/be taken to.

Having people perform outside means that it is harder for them to use multimedia however I'm sure that they'll accept the challenge. My group and I on the other hand were actually quite lucky in the sense that our scenery wasn't out of our comfort zones (although our actual performance did push us out of our comfort zone). It soon became clear that depending on where different peoples scenes were set, it differentiated the multimedia that they could use. For example, projections could not be used outside.

...................................................................................................................................................................

This lesson was rather challenging as the chorus sections proved hard work. We seemed to be doing the same thing for hours but not actually getting anywhere. This disheartened a lot of us but by the end of the lesson our drive to continue proved worthwhile. Learning the chorus section was difficult as each individual had to work as one in the hopes of becoming an ensemble. I don't actually like ensemble pieces but I like the fact that during my time at Brit, in theatre I have had to be apart of ensemble pieces in most of the plays. I hope that this teaches me to be patient and possible even sways my mindset in the sense of me disliking ensemble performances.

We later recorded our voices reading the chorus text and will apply that to the ensemble piece so that the audience are surrounded with booming voices whist watching us perform.

...................................................................................................................................................................

I didn't actually learn all of my lines until the actual day of the performance. Most people would call this unprepared however I like to keep the lines fresh in my head so that the piece feels more naturalistic rather that rehearsed. The best way I learn lines is to read the line and then repeat it, record my voice and listen back to it or to write the lines down repeatedly. Either way I haven't forgotten any lines so far and so I will probably continue to use this method of line learning.

...................................................................................................................................................................

Just a little something I did in my spare time.

One of the ways in which I learn lines.

Performance Time:

Multimedia used in the performance:

Phones, projections, lasers, music, cameras, imagery, film,  ring tones and live feed.

I think the multimedia enhanced the performance because it was almost like adding another dimension to the play. It was another layer that gave the whole piece extra detail. In fact it's the kind of thing you add to a performance to take it go from 2D to 3D, and I think we certainly did that. It also helped to capture the chaos, danger and excitement throughout the piece because the multimedia complemented the play and set a certain tone depending on what kind of media it was.

I think the multimedia made the audience relax faster as they were welcomed into a warm and cosey setting fairly straight away. The sounds and imagery made everything appear more film like and so the audience were in a homely type of state. I think the audience were also more engaged because they became so wrapped up in the scene. It was defiantly something that added to the performance.

The performance would not have been as effective without the multimedia because it would have lacked the pizzazz that the media enabled it to have.  I don’t believe that the performance would have been as professional as it was, nor benefit the modern take on the play.

I believe the most efficient moment of multimedia was the one piece that I was actually unable to watch, however from pictures and through conversation, I heard a lot of amazing things about. This was the scene in which Antigone was found liable for burying her brother and was held captive in the cave. From images like the one below, I discovered that the group used the whole of one side of a room to project an image onto. This worked extremely well and acted as a backdrop which I found intriguing.

Scenes from Antigone:
Multimedia used and locations
How did the multimedia in each scene enhance the performance?
1. Creon announces that Eteocles will be honoured and Polynices will be shamed and left un-buried.
Video to be shown on screen in reception.
Added another dimension. The piece dripped in enthusiasm and it really reflected Antigone's confidence. She walked around with sass and had great taste in music.
2. Antigone goes to Ismene to persuade her to assist the burial of their brother. Ismene refuses.
By the tree - video shown of the thoughts of the characters.
Shows how the characters truly feel. It basically added more depth to the scene.
3. Antigone goes to bury her brother.
Round of wooden stumps.

The round circular shape almost looked like it had purposely been placed there. Almost to represent some significance (e.g the circle of life or Antigone's everlasting love - it could even be seen as a trap that Antigone has set herself into, she cannot escape).
4. Creon looks for the support of the chorus of Theban Elders in his  decision to leave Polynices unburied.
Creon announces from fire escape door of 415 - chorus round the tree looking up. Audience looking up also.
It makes Creon sound bigger than he actually is. He has been given a louder voice when in actual fact his voice is the only one that matters and therefore the megaphone is almost a metaphor in itself.
5. A Sentry reports the burial of Polynices. Creon insists that the Sentry finds out who or face death.
Filmed footage of event is shown on screen top of stairs. Sentry talking to Creon.
Footage played on a loop almost to drive a person crazy. The video allowed the audience to watch acting in a different form.
6. Chorus sing about honouring gods.
From the yard up to windows of 413

Recorded chorus played.
Made the audience feel very much a part of the piece. Kept the traditional but in an abstract way.
7. Sentry returns with the Culprit: Antigone. Creon confronts her.
Burst into 413 - audience turn to see.
Lighting used.
Very simplistic scene which consisted of a chair and several light. This meant that the multimedia could be seen in a minimalistic but very effective way.
8. Creon confronts Ismene. Ismene tries to confess but Antigone won't allow it. And in the end, the two sisters are imprisoned.
Still in 413 but Creon live speaks to a projected Ismene. Antigone is walked out the room and joins the real Ismene - escorted off.
Lighting used
The scene is jam-packed with multimedia. Live feed proved a treat and enhanced the emotion that was in the room.
9. Haemon both pledges allegiance to his father, Creon, and asks that Antigone be spared. After the discussion deteriorate, Haemon storms out vowing never to speak to him again.
Traverse in 413 - iphone lights as the two talk. Throughout confrontation, lights go out, one by one.
This scene was lacked light and was only lit by a few phones. This symbolized the desperateness and enhance emotion within the scene.
10. Creon choses to spare Ismene, and to bury Antigone alive. As she is dragged out, the chorus express their Sorrow.
One light left on Creon's face. Sound of s body being dragged...etc.

Projection and video used
This scene used a mixture of footage and theatre to show  the power Creon had over everyone.
11. Tiresias attempts to advise Creon that what he is doing is wrong and that the Gods are angry. The prophecy of a dead son is mentioned.
Tiresias never moves his mouth but what he says coupled with weird underscore is played through speakers of 415.
Projected video played
My scene! This showed the visions of Tiresias and the consequences that could follow. It also included green distorted lasers.
12. The chorus, terrified, begs him to take Tiresias' advice. Shaken, Creon agrees to release Antigone and bury Polynices.
As many chorus as possible fill cavities of 415 and urge Creon. Three doors and side grated window thing.

Showed the villagers coming together to share their story as one. It was almost as if they were showing their support for Antigone in a hidden form as the chors.
13. Chorus deliver a choral ode to the god Dionysus.

Very professional and the lights which were distributed at certain times really proven effective to creating the imagery of a town.
14. Messenger informs Eurydice of Haemon and Antigone's death.
Filmed footage on repeat of Haemon stabbing himself and Antigone hanging, swinging from a branch.
The footage on a loop was almost distressing to watch but reflected the seriousness that the play also included.
15. Carrying the body of his dead son Haemon, Creon is then met by a 2nd messenger informing him of Eurydice's death.
Audience back outside looking at tree. Creon walking through the courtyard, holding Creon, confronted by messenger at the tree. Chorus look down from 415.
Creon looses the battle. He didn't have his priorities straight and lost out in the end.

Thursday 16th April - Lesson 6

Thursday 16th April

Today we recorded the moment of choral speaking and some breath. We did this so that we would be able to have a real sense of intimacy with the audience when performing our chorus section. This was because our voices would surround the audience in a fuzzy cocoon whilst they watch us perform below them, making them feel like a piece of the play but in a dream like way.
We also discussed how the pieces that we are creating are relevant for a contemporary audience.
My piece is relevant because it is supported with modern footage and events such as the London riots and the 2004 Japanese tsunami. We used modern footage to incorporate a timeless feeling to the play, and it was used to show the badness that lingered in the past but is still here today and bounds to be here in the future. It also helps to get the moral of our scene across (that being that if you do bad, then bad things are bound to happen to you) (In our scene Tiresias is warning Creon of the badness that is bound to surround him if he does not change his ways. He sees visions of what he should expect - this is where we introduced the footage).
The multimedia which we incorporated into the piece reflects the modernness which we tried to capture. The footage which we used shows modern pictures of riots and natural disasters which also matches what Tiresias the blind prophet (who could easily be portrayed as an old senile man today) was saying.
Our group didn't use any footage that we made ourselves however did create some footage of horrible things which we found online, this was supported by music and a laser which helped to get across this idea of an 'obscured vision' - type of dream' across to the audience.
We didn't need to plan much as a group. We gave individuals tasks to complete and just got on with it. One of my tasks was to find a couple of black masks which Natasha and myself would wear throughout our scene along with some ruby red lipstick. This however didn't manage to happen as the masks arrived late and came the day after the performance, and we both decided to give the lip stick a miss as it would have gone perfectly with the masks. This was a shame but didn't give us any disadvantage as we knew that delivery services were not something that we should necessarily rely on, and so we thought of the masks as something to experiment with once they had arrived rather than counting on them.

Some of the scenes from groups:

We then shared our scenes so far. Here are some of the notes:
1. This scene was very good. I really enjoyed it. I was slightly confused with what the guards were doing at first but throughout the scene it was very obvious that they were modern guards because of the language which they used. I loved the characterization! Jamie and Daniela both were completely different to the guards (both status wise and presence wise). Jamie and Daniela were very serious and probably showed the most emotion out of everyone, they really gave it their all whereas Gloria, Oliver and Conner on the other hand, also matched their passion and confidence however were more relaxed and intimate with the audience. I really liked the contrast though (it was almost like mixing cartoon stereo types with mature realistic and professional human beings). The split scene worked very well and I love how it wasn't the typical type of split scene where one part of the scene would freeze before the other begins, but instead continued at the same time (when Gloria, Oliver and Conner were performing, Jamie and Daniela were miming and visa versa). This made the scene more realistic and enjoyable to watch. The neatness needs to be developed as the scene get messy at times, but overall the piece was amazing, it was modern and the entertaining.

2. Tim and Antonia were funny but at places the jokes were a bit 'dead' and the play ran dry at times. This was hardly at all, but did occur a few times (this could easily be improved with practice along with a constant flow). The piece contained modernness (mobile phone use) and was also very funny. For example, the guards relationship which could easily be misjudged as abuse, the scene almost turned into a double act of idiots (which was very much what I believe they tried to capture with their characters personas - this worked very well).Tim and Antonia both broke the aspect of the 4th wall when they both addressed the audience.

3. I loved how a chorus was added into the piece. It meant that the scene could capture a modern audience but whilst keeping its authentic and traditional formation. To improve this scene I would encourage the group to share out the lines a bit more because Loyde said a lot in comparison to others (but that is only opinion, it looks fine the way that it is) but then that would most likely take away from the chorus like feeling which is what I like most about the piece. I loved the unison, cannon and physicality that the chorus used throughout the scene. It showed variety which was what many scenes lacked. This group did not use multimedia however I believe they made a video to contribute to the piece.

4. I liked the status in this group. Jake appeared bigger physically and spoke with the correct pronunciation whereas Beni sounded peasant like and held himself low to the ground, was very hunched over etc. I also loved how a modern and daily experience for most of us was added into the piece, this was the news. It mean that the piece was instantly modernized and was relative to the majority of the audience. I don't think the group need to improve particularly, apart from tightening up like the rest.

5. This scene was very slick and cool, it had all the top dogs looking their finest. The two guards had brilliant Russian accents but kept to the modern language. I really liked this about this group because it meant that they kept Antigone fairly the same however transported us form Greece to Russia.

6. This group created a torch lit scene where the point of interest was lit by mobile phone torches which were held by the chorus. The chorus were lacking a role in the piece, I think they needed more to do however the little they did was perfect.

7. My scene was okay. In my opinion it was lacking a lot and not many of us on stage knew what we were doing, we just kind of improvised however we did manage to do it and save ourselves the humiliation of not knowing what we were doing at all. We used footage as our multimedia but it was not shown in this run through. To improve we need to fix everything and practice a lot, there wasn't much that didn't need improvement which says a lot.

Creative Performance - Lesson 4

Today we explored two versions of the scene between Antigone and Creon.

The script my partner and I shared had a very modern style. And I think the writer managed to use a contrast of the traditional language along with a more modern type.

Our script opposed to the other script was more modern however managed to have a more effective grasp on a current audience without using violent language. Whereas the other script was more brutal and fierce, containing a huge amount of passion however appeared to be more relevant to an older audience as it was less interesting. Also the script I had seemed to present Antigone as this brave female and Creon as a evil monster whereas the other version made both characters a similar status.

The language used, changed the characters persona's completely. Antigone was perceived as the fiery girl in one version but merely as a spark trying to flame in the other, as she was overridden by Creon.

In groups we then created a version of Antigone focusing on setting it in a specific context. By doing this we had to focus on the use of the language in the piece. The group that I was in consisted of Eric, Robin, Connor, Will, Logan, Max and I.

My group and I created a piece that was based in the 'East End' which consisted of the 'The King' and his 'Roadmen' that had stumbled across two twin sisters digging up their brother from 'The Kings' graveyard. It was set in 'The Kings' throne room (which could have been anywhere - probably a park bench or some ratchet set)

Characters:
2 Twin sisters that made us Antigone (Robin and I, we both played menacing twins that were ruthless but also extremely funny)
1 King aka Creon (Logan, he played a leader that bossed his sidekicks around and scared everyone but was very funny and had a phobia of germs)
2 Roadmen (Conner and Eric, played two of the Kings top men and were seen as mean but also slightly dumb helpers)
2 Guards (Will and Max reported Antigone's crime to the King and then fetched her to the King)

We used a a lot of violent language to try and capture a modern audience. This language ranged anywhere between 'You dare to rebel against me' to 'We're your fucking nieces!'. We used this language in the hopes of being able to reach out to a modern audience.

Loyde, Danielle, Matilda, Tim and Amaia:
The performance contained top notch stereotypes which made the piece very funny. The posh accents used were exaggerated and the element of 'food' was used to the performers advantage (in a comedy type of way). I loved the status which was clearly represented with a change of voice, body language and posture. This meant that the audience got the most out of the piece as there was a consistency in the way in which the performers held themselves.

Sarah, Mateo, Pheobe, Ella, Sherene and Ellis:
This group used modern and explicit language throughout the piece. The performance was a little messy however the humour that was intertwined throughout the piece saved the performance. The plot of the story was delivered in a relatable way and it was the only performance to actually include the death of a girl (Antigone). By including the death of the girl it made the piece feel more complete.

Alabama, Natasha, Clement, Stacey, Oliver and Chris:
This group didn't stick out as much as the other groups for me, but it did include the element of humour, which seemed to be a something that every group decided to interpret into their piece. The audience got a little confused at times but understood was going on more or less. I loved how the group put Antigone in a modern pub, it was a nice twist which could actually be improved upon and put into our final performance.

Rory, Benji, Michelle, Nina, Antonia and Daniel:
The only performance to actually include multimedia. We were not asked to include any form of multimedia into our performances however I love that them knowing that they would eventually have to do this, actually meant that they gave it a go so early on during rehearsals. And it really paid off, the piece was amazing and a delight to watch. The multimedia and language used created a modern piece that meant that the show was relevant to younger audiences that could relate to things such as phones and music. It was definitely the most creative piece, using technology however didn't convey the story as much as other groups did so therefore didn't deliver as much as the should have to the audience. The group didn't exactly complete the task given however I think they actually strived for the best and challenge themselves and tried to surprise us, which is exactly what they did.

Frankie, Jake, Roseby, Teago and Zach:
This performance was set around the Busy Malone era, which also entitled the actors to use the Chicago gangsta accents which they managed to deliver perfectly. The piece was action packed which is exactly what an audience member wants, something exciting which they can feed off of and conduct energy from, this piece definitely delivered. It was very funny to watch and I wish it lasted longer.

Set Design Task...

This Easter holidays we needed to design a set for our own version of Antigone. We needed to imagine that we'd have as much money as we needed to create this, therefore we had no limits on our ideas.

We needed to think carefully about designing something that helps the audience to understand our version of the play.

Our version is meant to be relevant for an audience today.

Here is my design:

This shows a simple format and layout in which our scene could be performed in.
It is set in a dark environment. I wasn't sure whether to set it in a black room or a very dark forest, either would be effective.

The audience should be seated in a proscenium arch layout. This is because  the way in which I have envisioned the performance, no other other seating layout would be relevant nor enable the audience to see what's happening on stage clearly.

I have mainly used red, white and black to symbolize the abstract fierceness of the colours and how they are all strong and bold, however will not mix because they are like oil in water. They symbolize the blood of war, the pain from death and the avenging furies of hell.
I drew this image to show what the set of Antigone would look like if I had a lot of money. This would be for the scene that Antigone's dead body is found in the cave (The name ' Side Ship' also comes from what could be a group of 'Side Chicks aboard the ship).

Multimedia - Lesson 3

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O704ld5WQnk

The Theatre production uses multimedia to communicate this idea of being lost in what I can only imagine to be an imagination or mindset of some kind (after more research I found out it was based on a boy with autism and is mainly set in the autism spectrum). It's all very much set in the matrix and allows the performance to be free flowing and different. The performance itself creates illusions to mimic literal action in an abstract way. This goes really well with this play in particular because it is about an imagination and after all imaginations aren't normal they are abstract and have bits and bobs everywhere. The illusions enhance the storyline and captures a modern audiences attention with its uniqueness. The lasers, projections and lights used, create some kind of a barrier between the audience and what is going on; on stage (it's almost like a shield protecting the audience from getting lost in the mind of the person). You are unable to interact with the actors in this performance however the audience still feel very much a part of the piece, this is because it stuns and leaves the audience in a state of hypnosis from start to finish. Sounds are also used and come from all directions making the play more realistic instead of the usual idealistic tradition of all the sound coming from the sounds room located at one spot in the theatre. Because of fluidity with the directions of the sounds, it makes the performance truly come to life and more realistic even in a fake world. The multimedia conveys a high level of newness and endless opportunities ahead. The multimedia gave the piece a contemporary perspective which meant that the play explored certain areas in a depth that previously didn't exist. It did this by focusing on the main subject and magnifying it in an unusual form. For example, the main character embarks on a trip and has to take the underground train service. The stage which resembles the underground, quickly changes into something else. An array of projections and sound (of course we can all relate to noise of the underground services but this noise is different, it’s slowed down. And the lights are very abstract and magnified through different shapes which move at different speeds).

Exploring the Text

We explored two scenes:

Antigone and Ismene

  • When focusing on this scene, we focused on the relationship between the two sisters and also the contrast in their beliefs. From the text it was obvious that Ismene wanted to help her sister but found it too risky because of what she believed had the power of authority. I also got the impression that although Antigone is smart and courageous, she also seems to be blinded by what she believes,  and in the process she seems to make stupid decisions such as almost disowning her sister, just because her sister doesn't want her to fight a losing battle. This shows that Ismena simply wants the best for her sister however Antigone can sometimes be blinded by her passion to achieve her goals.
  • The text was pretty self explanatory and it wasn't too hard to explore the characters practically. However my partner and I still had a go at changing their personalities (Phoebe played Ismene and I played Antigone). First of all we just read the text through, then we explored a loving sister tone and physicality (such as incorporating a hug, friendly smiles and  the touch of a hand every once in a while etc. In the hopes of creating a bond on stage that resembled that of two loving sisters that were potentially saying their last goodbyes), we then tried making Antigone quite rude and explosive (This was done by giving Antigone a harsh, sharp tone and making her pace the stage a lot. I did this to show her impatience and the fact that she wasn't asking her sister to help her, but instead telling her to or to face being disowned by her own blood), and thirdly we tried a contrast of the two (This was done by Antigone being quite feisty and arguing without backing down however also included Ismene trying to be the loving sister she is without going against her own beliefs. In fact I don't even think Ismene sticks to her beliefs, I simply think that she is too scared to defy Creon, she doesn't want to lose any more of her family. At the end of our scene Ismene and Antigone hug, Ismene wishes Antigone luck but refuses to join her and Antigone walks off without looking back but accepts her sister's opinion and apology to join her on her quest).
  • I discovered that the relationship between the two sisters was strong because they had clearly been through a lot with the loss of half of their family. It was also clear that they both shared strong disagreements even though they both potentially wanted the same outcome.
  • This information is also linked to what we had already learned, when we researched about historical context. This is because not only are there two opposing sides in the civil war which are obviously fighting because of an array of disagreements, there is also a clash of personality, agreements and beliefs when it comes to Antigone and Ismene. In fact it is as if both the sisters are are on opposite sides of a war however don't want to harm each other (and of course there is also Antigone's war against Creon).
Antigone and Creon

  • We focused on exploring Creons idealist view point. He carries a strong and powerful presence however struggles to find a common ground with himself, after he is faced with the fact that Antigone has defied him and has ultimately created a death sentence for herself. He clearly doesn't want to execute his own niece who is also meant to marry his son, however he refuses to look weak or turn a blind eye at this point in the play. He is right in treating her as one of his citizens however if he changed his ways; ever so slightly, then he could have avoided this and a lot of what is to come in future of the play.
  • Antigone still portrayed herself in a forceful manor, she  wasn't about to back down to Creon and willingly accepted death if it meant that she was standing up for what she believed in. Creon on the other hand was explored as emotionless. He was a hard character to master as he has to come across emotionless on the outside however you had to physically show his emotion on the inside (the easiest way to do this was for him to match Antigone's volume and strength when face to face with her, however to then turn away and show his painful expressions. After All, Creon is about to lose both a niece and a daughter in law).
  • Creon and Antigone don't really share a very good relationship in this play however I feel as if post Antigones parents and brothers dying, she and her uncle may have had a relationship. At this point in the play, Antigone clearly despises him and his rule, but Antigone has to like Creon as he is her uncle, father in law and her King.
  • This all links back to the historical context post because it makes the audience realize just how important religion is to the Greeks and the lengths that they will go to correct mistakes made.

Greek Women in Theatre

Women weren't viewed as very much more than pests in society, they are merely 'there', with no real importance although were obviously needed to cook, clean, produce babies etc. However, I do find it fascinating how woman somehow always played a strong willed characters in plays, however the lessons that the plays taugh society and the messages that they portrayed were never usually picked up upon; in daily life. I also find it weird how there are both Goddesses and Gods but still women are thought of as less; even though they are given the same title. Women have always been brought up as delicate little flowers that should dress pretty, do their hair nicely, present themselves in a gentle and friendly, polite manner. Maybe what we should have been taught was to get our hands dirty and to go and work along side the males. This in itself has completely messed up society, we have repeated history thousands of times and so this shouldn't come as a shock to us anymore but for some reason it still does.  Only now have we started to grasp a sense of real equality in genders, however even now, in this time of acceptance, when religious matters play a part in the world and its gender equality issues. Women always seem to be in an underdog manor. Women have always carried a disadvantage in society and that was certainly the case in Ancient Greece. In fact, perhaps we could say that theatre was not the only thing that we continued to work on, we also carried this discrimination of equality for thousands of years later.
